I was awoken bright and early on Sunday morning by my seven year old daughter begging me for the new Lady Gaga bracelet. She had been shown it on the Lady Gaga website by my 14 year old daughter who - as it turned out - wanted one too.
The bracelets cost $5.00 each and all of the proceeds went to help the victims of the tsunami in Japan.
After getting a cup of coffee I went to see for myself. The bracelets, designed by Lady Gaga are the popular low-cost silicone bracelets that are used often by charities. I am writing this article just a few days after the bracelets went on sale and already she has raised an amazing £250,000 for the cause.
I'm sure that amount will rise.
Lady Gaga has a great reputation for helping charitable causes and this example helps highlight just how popular brands and promotional gifts can work together to raise money for good causes.
In the past few months I have seen an increase in the use of silicon charity bracelets. They seemed to go out of fashion for a couple of years but they are making a comeback.
When raising money for charities with promotional products, it is important that they are quite visible products.
Bracelets, badges, t-shirts, hats, windmills, logo bugs and balloons are all popular choices.
Products such as logo bugs and balloons work particularly well though I tend to steer people toward promotional products that are a little more useful when promoting a business.
These bright eye-catching gifts are excellent large volume promoters that should be considered when trying spread the word about and raise money for a charity.
You'll never guess what else happened while I was on the Lady Gaga site for my first and probably last time - no offence Lady Gaga! My daughters also pointed out a special Lady Gaga keyring and two Lady Gaga t-shirts that they had to have too!
They are on their way but I can assure you the girls spent the rest of the day in the garden planting lettuce to pay for the additional treats.
Promotional gifts work! They are great for promoting special causes and I'm sure Lady Gaga does quite well from her merchandise sales as well.
Products such as t-shirts can easily be used for both charities and businesses. Think of all the t-shirts you have seen on sale from businesses in popular holiday destinations, restaurants and bars.
Although we cannot all sell our promotional products on, they still work as a very good reminder of our brands even when we give them away.
